Almenara Golf Club

Almenara Golf Club in Sotogrande once again played host to the JFGA Junior Tour Major, the Sotogrande International Young Talents Trophy from the 25th-28th October 2018. The tight, tree-lined and water hazard infested layout always proves to be a tough test, for golfers of all levels.

Competitors playing in the U25 categories were playing for World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points, drawing in some of the best young Amateurs from all around Europe to participate.

ACES Golf Students

Starting with the U16 category, Joseph Western (Junior ACES) and Leonardo Pustetto (Elite ACES) battled hard and passed the 36 hole cut. Both players posted their best scores of the tournament in the final round, allowing them to climb the leaderboard, to finish in 5th and T7 respectively.

In the U25 Girls WAGR Category, Hannah Mitterberger (Elite ACES), Isabelle Schlick (Junior ACES) and Claudia Alnajim (Junior ACES) all made the 36 hole cut and continued that form into the final round, all finishing inside the top 10 with 10th, 9th and 7th place finishes.

Finishing with the U25 Boys WAGR Category, Tiger Christensen (Junior ACES), Joel Birrer (Elite ACES) and Wigo Weisner (Elite ACES) all passed the 36 hole cut with ease, with Tiger and Joel putting in respectable performances in round 3, allowing them to finish in T12 and T10 places respectively. Wigo Weisner started the final round 8 shots back of the leader, ex Jason Floyd Golf Academy gap year student Monty Scowsil. Playing the front 9 in +5, Wigo begun the back 9 in emphatic fashion, with 3 birdies in a row on 10, 11 and 12 and held on to shoot a final round 75 (+3) to cement a very respectable 4th place finish.

The ACES Series

From October 2019, the Sotogrande International Young Talents Trophy will be renamed to the “ACES European Masters” and will be the first of 4 WAGR Majors on the JFGA Junior Tour on the 2019/20 season.
