As part of the Sotogrande International School programme, students in M5 recently took part in work experience to learn new skills and participate in an experience that ties into their future education and career pathway.

The Jason Floyd Golf Academy were delighted to host Noa, who has a keen interest in sports and plans to study Sport Psychology.

Noa spent a week with our team, learning about our bespoke training programmes. From her KinetiX screening, seeing our facilities & training, Noa was able to get firsthand experience about the different programmes at JFGA and how we use a wide range of technologies to offer bespoke golf programmes for each student at the Jason Floyd Golf Academy.

In our blog this week, Noa tells us about her experience:

My name is Noa and during my M5 year in Sotogrande International School I have been given a week in which I am able to undergo work experience in an institution that best suits my future career choices. In my search to find a suitable work place to withstand my work experience, I came across the Jason Floyd Golf Academy. I am interested in studying sport psychology in the future and, therefore, JFGA is a perfect fit for helping me gain an insight into what my future career choices may attain. By spending my work experience week here at the Jason Floyd Golf Academy, I am gathering a deeper understanding in what working at a sport institution entails.

First Day – An Introduction

During my first day of my work experience week, I was introduced to the institution setup, the technology that is used to measure and monitor the student athletes performance. I was further given an insight into what the coaches yearly plan is and how they formulate their calendars with all their students throughout the years seasons. In addition to this, I was shown the Jason Floyd Golf Academy website, where I was able to view their blogs and was given the opportunity to be involved in a future blog.

KinetiX Screening

Throughout the first couple of days working at the JFGA, I was consistently being explained in detail all aspects of the Academy’s assets. To allow me to attain a further understanding on the additional components of the Jason Floyd Golf Academy, I was able to do a KinetiX screening with Oli. In this KinetiX screening session, I headed down to their strength and conditioning centre where I performed various exercises that measure your mobility and any other additional physical aspects that are utilised in golf. After having done these exercises, Oli will have created an athlete profile for you where the coaches are able to keep track of your progress and are able to give you focused exercises to allow you to further improve.

Course Training

Continuing through my week, I went alongside some of the students while they played an executive course. This course took around 2 hours to be played and consisted of 9 holes. While accompanying the group during their game, I was able to see, in a first hand experience, how the mental side of golf affects gameplay. Throughout the course, players can easily become frustrated when they are consistently executing shots that are not up to their standards. This frustration continues on to affect their gameplay. Having a clear mind and lowered or no distractions while playing golf, or any high level sport, is an extremely important factor to how you perform.

Student Interviews

Nearing the end of the week, I continued to work on my blogs and was able to help film clips for an interview for a student; Leo Zurovac. Consequent to helping film video clips for Leo’s student profile, I was able to speak to Lorne Burns regarding sport psychology and metal state in sport. This conversation allowed me to gain an insight in the sporting industry and how your mental state greatly impacts your performance in sport. I was also given the opportunity to view a student assessment for a possible future student that would attend in 2023. The Student assessment consists of a KinetiX screening with Oli and then further analysis utilising the trackman and other available technology for the most accurate analysis possible.

My Experience

After having undergone the aforementioned experiences, I am able to state that I have attained a plethora of information regarding the deeper aspects of a sports institution.

My week at the Jason Floyd Golf Academy has been an extremely positive experience. I have been able to attain various useful information and advice that I will carry on into my future. This knowledge that the Jason Floyd Golf Academy has given me will continuously help aid me in my future, especially in my interest in sport psychology.
