Key holes

Augusta National Golf Club is the most iconic and renowned golf course in the world. This exclusive club is home to the Masters Tournament, one of the four major championships in professional golf. It is also home to some of the most famous and recognised holes in golf, including the par-3 12th, the par-5 13th, and the par-4 18th. However, there is one set of tee boxes at Augusta National that are often overlooked – the keyholes. The keyholes are a set of four tee boxes that are located on the back nine holes at Augusta National Golf Club. These tee boxes are placed slightly further back than the standard tee boxes, allowing players to have longer shots into the green. The keyholes are positioned to provide a more challenging approach shot and to make the hole more difficult.

The keyholes are named after the legendary golfer Byron Nelson, who was the first to use them in the Masters Tournament. He believed that these tee boxes would make the course more challenging for the pros and give the spectators a better view of the action. The keyholes are located on the par-4 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th holes. These holes are considered to be some of the toughest on the course and can make or break a golfer’s round.

The keyholes provide a unique challenge for players and can be a determining factor in the outcome of the tournament. The keyholes are not just used for the Masters Tournament. They are also used for regular play at Augusta National Golf Club. This allows players to experience the challenge of the course and get a feel for the course before they compete in the Masters. The keyholes at Augusta National Golf Club are an integral part of the course and provide a unique challenge for golfers of all skill levels. They are a reminder of the course’s history and a challenge for golfers who want to test their skills.

Amen corner

Augusta National Golf Club is renowned for its world-class golf course, and a popular feature of the course is Amen Corner. Located between the 11th, 12th and 13th holes, this area of the course is known for its stunning beauty, difficulty and potential for dramatic moments.

Amen Corner is so named for the legendary Bobby Jones, one of the co-founders of Augusta National, who exclaimed “Amen!” after nailing a great shot here in the 1935 Masters Tournament. From then on, the area was known as Amen Corner, and it has since become one of the most famous areas of any golf course in the world. The 11th hole is a par-4, and is considered the start of Amen Corner.

It is a very challenging hole, with sand traps, a pond, and an elevated green. The 12th hole is a par-3 which requires a precise shot over Rae’s Creek in order to make the green. The 13th hole is another par-5, and features a difficult tee shot over the same creek, followed by a challenging approach to the green. Amen Corner has produced some of the most exciting moments in golf. In the 1958 Masters, Arnold Palmer hit a miraculous shot from the creek on the 12th hole to save par, and a few years later, Jack Nicklaus hit a sensational 1-iron from the 13th fairway to set up his win in the Masters. Amen Corner is a must-visit for any golf fan, and its beauty, history and challenge make it one of the most iconic areas of any golf course in the world.

History

The history of the Masters Golf Tournament began in 1931, when Augusta National Golf Club was founded by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts. Jones was an amateur golfer who had won the Grand Slam in 1930 and wanted to create a private golf course where he could play with friends. Roberts was a successful businessman and saw the potential in Jones’ vision to create a world-class golf facility. The first Masters Tournament was held in 1934, with Jones and Roberts serving as the tournament’s founders. Horton Smith won the tournament that year, and the following year, Gene Sarazen achieved one of the most memorable shots in golf history when he hit a hole-in-one on the 15th hole to win the tournament. Since then, the Masters has become one of the most prestigious events in golf, and the event has grown in size and stature over the years.
