The world of professional golf is a highly competitive and challenging one, but for Monty Scowsill, it’s a dream he has made a reality in the past six months. Recently, Monty paid a visit to the Jason Floyd Golf Academy, where he met with Student Liaison Manager Lorne Burns and shared some insights into his journey as a professional golfer.

Monty began his golfing journey aged 15. Having represented his County at both Cricket and Hockey, Monty possessed a natural sporting ability which helped reduced his handicap from 28 to Scratch by the time he was 18.

After leaving school with A-level grades of A*AA in Economics, French and Drama, Monty spent much of his gap year working, practicing and competing at County, National and International level.

Monty’s biggest development came during his 3 years at the University of Exeter where he received numerous scholarships and captained the 1st team for 2 years. In his final year, Monty finished 2nd in the BUCS Order or Merit capping off a fine University career where he was awarded honours for his contribution to Exeter Sport. Monty graduated in 2018 with a 2:1 in Business Management.

Following his graduation, Monty decided to pursue his passion for golf, playing a full international schedule in 2019 where he missed only 1 cut and recorded numerous top 10 finishes. Hampered by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, Monty resumed a full schedule in 2021 where he recorded his most notable finish on the Amateur schedule, finishing Runner-Up in the R&A Amateur Championship at Nairn Golf Club. Narrowly missing out on the 2nd playoff hole of the 36 hole match play final, Monty was awarded lifetime honorary membership at Nairn for his efforts.

Since turning pro, Monty’s life has changed in many ways. He’s had to learn how to balance the demands of the game and he’s developed a strong mental game to cope with the pressures of competition. But despite the challenges, Monty remains passionate about golf and is constantly striving to improve his skills and achieve his goals.

During his visit to the Jason Floyd Golf Academy, Monty had the opportunity to work on his game and chat with Lorne Burns about his experiences as a professional golfer. Lorne was impressed by Monty’s dedication and work ethic, as well as his positive attitude towards the game.

It’s clear that Monty Scowsill is a talented golfer with a bright future ahead of him. As he continues to compete at a high level, he’s sure to inspire and motivate other golfers to pursue their dreams and achieve their goals. And with the support of coaches like those at the Jason Floyd Golf Academy, the sky’s the limit for Monty and other aspiring golfers alike.
