In my first blog I introduced you to the pillars of our putting philosophies that you can still read by clicking here.

In that blog I discussed how regardless of golfing skill level, putting accounts for an impressive 43% of your total golf strokes and how it is a crucial element of the game – More PGA Pros rank in the Top 10 & Top 50 of the money list who also rank in the Top 10 in Putting from four to eight feet vs those who ranked in the Top 10 in Driving Distance, Driving Accuracy or Greens in Regulation.

I also discussed three different areas of the game:

  • Green Reading – correctly assessing the green
  • Start Line – starting the ball on your intended line
  • Ball Performance – knowing how your golf ball rolls

In this blog I will give you a deeper look into the green reading system we teach our students – AimPoint.

First let’s take a look at some of the statistics that show why AimPoint is the chosen green reading system we teach at the Jason Floyd Golf Academy.

So why?……..

Why is AimPoint express being used by the top professionals; and for those not on that list; why do so many of their caddies learn and apply this system?

The answer…… because the physics and maths have been proven, because it eliminates assumption, guesswork, surprises and has no opinion.

AimPoint works with the facts, with the evidence, with the reality and not the illusion or suspicion that course designers can present.

So what are the key skills behind learning AimPoint?

What does a % slope feel like?

Being able to recognise a slope is one thing but knowing how to quantify it takes training.

As well as assessing side slope; understanding how up and down slopes will effect your read is also critical.

Learning slope % is the most important skill within AimPoint.

The eyes tell lies.

Each individual’s arm bend is their interpretation of the green speed.

Most golfers will play multiple courses in their lifetime; however even if you only ever play the same golf course time after time the conditions will change day by day. This means that the green speed can and will change.

Therefore they will need to know how to check the calibration before playing their round, just in case adjustments need to be made.

This is now the easy part. No more guessing, wishful thinking or prayers to the golf gods. You assess the slope, assign the value and your arm bend plots the start line.

Job done 👍🏼

Once you understand the process, have been calibrated and immerse yourself in its logic; you will wonder how you ever read a green before learning this system.
